July 2013
Before 2009 my daughter cared for my father she did the best she good with the information she knew about caring for grandpa. He was independent and cared for himself administering his own medications. We thought he knew what he was doing. in July of 2009 he had a stroke more than once that left him looking as though he can make his own choice for his self this is where we ended up with papa

He was almost 400lbs a little later we found out he had a spinal infection due to his sugar being out of control. At that time we had now idea he was diabetic. his sugar would go as high as 500 or 600 it was crazy he was not in his right mind his whole body shut down in the hospital and was semi comatose. We thought it was over the doctor asked us if he had be walking prior to this incident I said yes He said it was a miracle. My dad since then has gone thru many changes he changed for the independent man I once knew to a child requiring around the clock care. He is set in his ways living with me is not an option but spending the night sharing the care with others is easier. Sometimes it ends up on the shoulder of one person and it is to much. My father is a funny man we have to monitor his medication because he easily overtakes medication cause he forgets. I am looking to get a medication lock box dispenser. He is doing so much better but the care is hard even with help from IHSS because you get people who say they know how to do things and they don't know how to do something as simple as poking a finger and testing blood sugars. How can you trust them to dispense insulin especially if you must go on a sliding scale. It is scary you can accidently overdose your patients because you are not trained. I think state health worker should be offered an injection course, diabetic care, bed ridden care, these classes should be give free by the state for the betterment of our Elderly and disabled Americans. Their is an easy fix these people can kill your loved ones without intentions of doing so. Insulin is a drug that is very dangereous. here is my father out of the hospital

These are the most recent pictures and how much weight he has lost with a control diet. I recently changed his provider I should not have because he is not doing well with his sugar stress, food, change, everything effects his sugar
We are moving on the first to the bigger city due to work for my sons and I am moving my father shortly there after. My dad has always been there for me he may not have done the right things always but he did the best he could with what he knew. I thank God I was raised and loved by a man I call Father, Dad, Dadddy, Old Man and a few other names...lol If you help care for your parent or just want to talk find me on facebook and we can find answers for our parents online together.
